Our Mission
Fort Greene Park Users and Pets Society (PUPS) is a collective group of dog owners who use Fort Greene Park on a regular basis. We are responsible dog owners who believe that in order to enjoy the park's beautiful grounds and many resources, we must clean up after our dogs, keep our dogs under control, and prevent our dogs from harming the park's landscape.

We also believe it is important to have off-leash opportunities for our dogs for exercise and socialize in our urban environment. PUPS will work to preserve off-leash time in Fort Greene Park, and also to have a space in the park dedicated to off-leash recreation. We will abide by the city's leash laws during on-leash hours (currently 9:00 am — 9:00 pm).

We are Fort Greene Park's most regular users. We are in the park 365 days a year, rain or shine, providing a network of eyes and ears, adding to the park's security. We are Fort Greene PUPS.

PUPS Short-Term Goals
>> Continue to be advocates for good dog behavior in Fort Greene Park.

>> Sponsor fun events and get-togethers in the park.

>> Continue to raise funds for mailings, website maintenance; recruit new members.

>> Get members' ideas for events. Keep the website updated and use it as an informational and educational tool for PUPS members and others interested in dogs in our community.

PUPS' Long-Term Goals
>> Work toward having increased courtesy off-leash hours (like Prospect Park).

>> Place a bench to protect trees around popular dog hang out areas. Install benches in the "back meadow" on the Myrtle Avenue side.

>> Consider establishing a "dog-meadow" or other full-time off-leash area in the park.

>> Consider establishing a dog memorial garden or tree-planting area.

Let's show the community
that people and dogs can
coexist in Fort Greene Park.

accomplished goals...and counting

>> A combination dog and human water fountain was finally installed in the park in spring 2008. This project took years of "dogged" persistence from people like DK Holland, Cathy Cook, and Nancy Peterson. Councilperson Tish James helped PUPS with a $5,000 grant to install this fountain. Thanks to everyone who finally made it a reality!

>> Two new poop-bag dispensers have been installed, replete with biodegradable poop bags. One can be found near the dog fountain; look for the other on the Brooklyn Hospital side of the tennis courts.

>> We have placed 8 trash cans at key spots in the park, with more to come. Look for the PUPS logo and use them often.
